No-Sugar Gypsy

Gypsy Slow Down

I don't eat sugar and it's not as hard as you might think.

As a child I suffered from a lot of depression, anger and mood swings.

The simplest decisions left me sweating and indecisive.
I remember one day I won a sewing contest in 4-H. I had to go up to the prize table and choose from beautiful yards of different wool fabric as my prize. As I stood staring at the fabric, my chest started to tighten, I couldn't breathe and I wanted to run away. All because I had to choose a piece of fabric.

My parents diagnosed me with hypoglycemia, which is low blood sugar.

Common symptoms are:

Anxiety
Depression
Asthma
Irritability
Inability to handle stress
Mood Changes
Light headedness
Panic Attacks
Nightmares
Fatigue
Back Aches
Neck Aches
Insomnia
Social Anxiety
Headaches
Leg Aches
Crying
Weight Gain
.....and so on

When you have low blood sugar, your main goal with food is to keep your blood sugar from dropping. Foods like sugar, white flour, starches, preservatives, MSG, and too much caffeine cause a spike and then drop.

When not enough glucose gets to the brain, which happens when blood sugar spikes and drops, it affects mood and emotion.

So while it seems strange that how you feel could be connected with what you eat...there is a big connection.

Nowadays it's easy to eat sugar free, there are so many wonderful substitutes. I like Stevia the most.

Some recipe resources are: Elana's Pantry. Chocolate Covered Katie. And more, if you just google no sugar or food allergies.

Happy Eating!
