Waterfalls and Riverways

Last weekend we went up to Boone, NC with Nan.
We planned to hike and then take a trip downtown so Nan could walk around ASU and soak up her future in the fall.

After driving and winding through the mountains for what seemed like hours, listening to this soundtrack on repeat, Witt turned off the Blue Ridge Parkway down a looong gravel road and finally to our destination.

We set off with backpacks and water bottles and I hiked alongside a river, crossed creeks and up steep embankments, all the while giving Witt and Nan ample fodder to ridicule my hiking style. Doesn't everyone wave their arms in the air while trying to make it safely from rock to slippery rock? I only nearly fell in a thousand times.

Somehow I made it to the treasure Witt wanted to show us, a beautiful waterfall with huge pools of water and rock in a beautiful setting. It looked like the most perfect place to swim and though even though Nan threatened she was going to jump in, we refrained since the air was brisk.

Nan hiked most of it barefoot, Last of the Mohican Style, but when she put her hiking boots back on and didn't want to get them wet Witt carried her safely across the creek like a true gentleman.

We drove into Boone and walked around with the wind whipping us into shape at a very cold temperature.

Nan didn't choose the hood life, it chose her.

We drove home, happy, tired and in need of showers.
Nan and I watched this movie while Witt installed our new dishwasher.
There's no rest for the weary but I am so thankful for him.
And my new dishwasher.
I'll never take that for granted.
