10 Dates of Summer ~ Fourth of July

It's been a few months since I've written on my one thousand gift list

This morning, as I eat leftover chinese food for breakfast with Fraiser in the background and the house is silent and the air is still chilly from last night I feel like I need to.

The weekend was busy and fun and that's just the way I wanted it. And now as the dust settles and Witt is at work and I'm off at home with the cats this week I'm missing the busy.

This weekend our Ten Dates of Summer had a plus one.
My sister spent a few days with us. She is studying photography at RCC and while my parents are at the lake in Canada she decided to spend the fourth with us.

It was wonderful to have her here. Witt graciously gave us the bed upstairs in the loft and he slept on the couch for three nights and we watched old movies, ate vegan chocolate cookies, sipped pink champagne and gallivanted all over town for the weekend festivities.

Friday we went downtown Greensboro for the Fun Fourth Festival. My cousin Abbie joined us and we walked around listening to the bands and eating kettle-korn.

We went by the Green Bean where Witt and I had our first date.

After we walked around we got a snack at M'Couls where we had appetizers and a beer. It was fun to be outside on the balcony watching the festival below and eating fries with gravy, goat cheese with a honey balsamic glaze and artichoke dip with pita.

Friday night I grilled out hotdogs and made festive pina coladas. I love making pina coladas from scratch. 1 can unsweetened coconut milk, 6 ounces pineapple juice and 4 tablespoons agave nectar blended with a cup of ice. Poured over rum about 1/4 or 1/3 cup in each glass. For this one I just added a few drops of food coloring to make them red white and blue and then layered in a glass. Festive.

That evening we went to see fireworks with our friends in Mebane. It's been a while since I've gotten to see fireworks and it was a great show.

Saturday night we went to Saturday in Saxapahaw and listened to blue grass music on the lawn.

But more on that next week.

I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.
