10 Dates of Summer ~ The First One

Gypsy Slow Down

To kick start 10 Dates of Summer we went to the Fourth Friday festival last night in downtown Burlington which takes place in the old train depot. It was really fun.

They have wine from a local winery and craft beer with live music and food trucks and also an art show. We hadn't been before and I put on my new dress and we headed out.

It's hard to walk around with a cup of wine and snap terrible phone pictures but I managed.

We ran into people we know and I met some old friends of Witt's and we listened to the music, drank some wine and beer and contemplated which food truck to eat from.

The lines were long so we decided to enjoy the festival and then go eat at The Fat Frogg which we love and that has great burgers and fries.

Going to the festival was impromptu, my plan was to do a beer tasting tonight in Durham but it got postponed and Witt suggested the festival at the last minute and I jumped on board.

I love that these dates might be planned and they might be spontaneous. That's the heart of summer, don't you think?

One of my ideas was to have a signature cocktail for each date.

Since we were doing the beer tasting I had planned this drink-

The Vitamin C Brew which I read in my latest Bon Appetit magazine.

I think it's still totally appropriate and I made it tonight to drink while I'm waiting for Witt to mow before we go out to dinner.

Beer is not my first drink choice but it's Witts so I wanted to make this for him. It's really fresh and citrusy and if you get a good gin like Tanqueray it adds just the right amount of spice and kick and tastes just like summer.

I'm a huge fan.

Vitamin C Brew- Makes 2

2 ounce gin, chilled
4 ounces fresh squeezed orange juice
1 bottle of all-american lager (I used an Island lager, no idea what the difference is! it was delicious)
2 orange wheel

Mix gin and orange juice and pour into the bottom of two high glasses. Top with beer and an orange wheel. Enjoy.
