December 8th

Is it really December 8th? I'm trying to slow down and breathe.

In between navigating the insane metropolis my small town becomes around Christmas with angry drivers and packed out stores, busy times with events and obligations, working and decorating, weekends packed full, wrapping gifts, working, and blinking in the mirror every morning when I wake up and realize I don't want this season to go by so fast, some of the small moments that have made me really happy are...

Decorating the tree

Gypsy Slow Down

Brown wrapping paper and Christmas stamps

Christmas carols I just don't get tired of

Finding that perfect gift and the excitement of giving them to the people I love

Watching Christmas movies

The bottle of special dark rum from Puerto Rico

Sharing a glass with my sister and her husband visiting from there

Having all four of my sisters at my parent's house for the first time in forever

Gypsy Slow Down

Waking up with Olive purring in my ear

Christmas lights on the bushes

Doing advent with Witt and lighting the purple candles

Oh Come All Ye Faithful at church

Taking Christmas card pictures with Cate

Gypsy Slow Down

Cozy little house with frost on the window

Hot masala tea at the Indian restaurant

Looking forward to Christmas traditions like oyster stew

Being a model for my sister's photography projects with film

Gypsy Slow Down

New Etsy pictures

Watching my sister kill a half marathon and cheering on the participants

An adorable wooden reindeer bought from a man in the parking lot of Target

Sending packages in the mail

The smell of fur trees

It's easy for me so say I love this time of year and also easy for me to find myself in the middle of it feeling just a little overwhelmed. But I've found that I always need to go back to my gratitude list. There is so much to be thankful for and when I say them out loud and I notice them, no matter how silly or small, it really brings me into that Christmas spirit that I want so badly but that sometimes in the middle of a stressful day completely eludes me as I'm sitting in traffic yelling at the car in front of me while Feliz Navidad plays on the radio.

This time of year I am thankful for all the small things above and also for a chance to give the people I love presents and my time, to spend the season with the people I am thankful to have in my life. I think the way we give gifts represents the gift that Christ gave to us and it makes me happy to remember that and happy to be in the Christmas season, right now.
