Oranges and Cloves

This is my 100th post. I can't believe all that has happened in a year since I started this blog, from taking my last exam to our first Anniversary. It's fun to look back and be reminded of days I might otherwise forget; like random weeknight dinners or summer evenings outside. Or laugh at myself (like the crazy detox where I couldn't put cream in my coffee).

We got our Christmas tree up this weekend and garland outside draping from the window boxes!

And a few decorations.

Witt and I are both fairly neat people, but where Witt likes nit-nacks, I do not. For the sake of love I have put up with random chinese figurines, antique tea-cups and saucers and huge seashells that seem to make their way into the house from thrift stores or moving out friend's houses and end up on the bookshelves and table-tops. Before I decorated this year I decided that for everything we brought in the house, something had to be temporarily packed up. When you have such a small house it can get overwhelmed quickly. Witt was very co-operative (and by that I mean I packed up the chinese figurine while he was outside hanging garland!).

It feels fresh and festive, like I think it might have been in the olden days when all they decorated with was oranges and cloves and greenery from the outdoors.

Isn't my sister pretty?

When I walked back in the door tonight the house smelled so good!

It makes this project so much easier if you to stick a toothpick in the orange before you put in each clove. And of course garnish with a pretty ribbon.
