Vines and Flowers

I know this blog is about food, but lately I've been in the decorating mood (I didn't mean for that to rhyme). Since Witt got called into work this morning on a Sunday, something about a hot water heater, and the plans for the day are up in the air, I am going to share some artwork I have been working on.

This is one of my favorite pillows:

I received a box of large canvases from my brother in law's father who is in the framing business. I love the canvases because they are off white and made from more of a burlap type fabric but that's soft and not rough (obviously I have no idea what they are made of) so the canvases don't need to be painted over. On a regular canvas I might have painted the background a beige or light color to get a softer look.

I penciled the design on the pillow onto the canvases and went over it with black acrylic paint. If you want to do this with a pillow in your own home, you could even trace the pillow design with transferable papers and then transfer it onto the canvas. My design wasn't complicated so I did it by hand. I also made the vines connect which makes the pieces look like they belong together and added red flowers.

It's really very simple but I feel like it brightens the room, almost like wall papering one wall and it brings things together.
